How to climb a mountain
How I did it: The three of us headed out for Roche Miette, a 2377 meter mountain on the east entrance to Jasper National Park at 8AM on Saturday. The first four hours were following a steep winding path, through trees and up loose rock and shale. The last two hours were beyond the tree line up an 80% grade of pure rock. We did it without gear of any sort, as many locals do, but if I were to do it again I would prefer some basics like a helmet or pick to help during the last few hundred meters. It took us about three hours to get back down, and I was very sore when we got back!
Lessons & tips: Wear gloves...from the moment you get out of your vehicle. This was the best thing I brought along. You will think you're at the top several times before you actually are.
