How to get rid of stuff i don't need
How I did it: I started by going through my house, room-by-room. Although it was difficult, I worked very hard to be honest with myself about what I really needed to keep and what I would actually use. I tried to think in the short-term. I let go of stuff that I knew I wouldn't use within 6 months. After the house was sorted, I had my husband bring everything out of storage so I could go through it bin-by-bin. I was able to let go of pretty much everything that had been in storage. It made sense...if it's in storage, I obviously wasn't using it.
Ultimately, we had a huge yard sale. I decided that once it was out on the "sale floor" so to speak, that I could not come back into the house. I had to stop myself from grabbing things out of the sale a few times, but I was successful!
Lessons & tips: Pace yourself, if you have time. It was a long process for me, with many ups and downs, but I think it really helped to take breaks from it. Some of my breaks were a week-long or more, but if I had put too much pressure on myself, I think I would have given up. It also helps to have someone supporting you. My husband really encouraged me and also helped me as much as he could. It was my stuff to make decisions about, but he hauled bins around, helped me sort items, and really helped me with the yard sale. I definitely could not have done it without all of his help.
