How to resist consumerism
How I did it: I'm a frequent free-pile finder/dumpster diver so this helps me to buy a lot less. I love thrift stores, and I use things usually until they are no longer usable. I'm also exploring several crafty pursuits that reuse and re-purpose old belongings. This is an ongoing goal for me, so I'm going to manifest the continuing of this goal through more concrete goals that are aligned with this (ie. learn to sew.)
...not only do you save money, but you also resist all of the nastiness that consumer culture by removing yourself from it entirely. I also feel empowered knowing that I am learning to fix things and make things for myself.
Lessons & tips: -learn skills like sewing, knitting, carpentry.
-FREE PILES AND DUMPSTERS
- The free section on craigslist (for giving and receiving)
Resources: nope, I didn't need any products.
If you need to fill a craving for retail therapy, I would check out etsy.com.
You are buying something handmade so you are supporting craftiness :)
