How to save $2000
How I did it: Technically, a few hundred dollars was left over from working last summer. I deposited paychecks into my savings account, which I don't touch, and deposited extra money (from selling things and babysitting jobs) into my debit (checking account). Of course, I also spent a lot of money this summer. Most was neccessary supplies for school (toiletries, office supplies, bedding, textbooks) but I also treated myself to quite a bit (food, clothes, a camera). But I still managed to scrap together $2,031 just three days before starting school.
My job during school should cover all of my food and basic living expenses (laundry, travel, supplies), but this $2,000 will be there if I need it. Plus, if I don't spend it, it will be leftover to help fund next year!
Lessons & tips: Keep track of what you buy. Seeing all the useless crap I bought helped me realize how I was being couterproductive towards reaching this goal. I kept a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet.
Deposit a designated pile of money into an account that you promise to yourself not to withdraw from.
