Not a complete waste of time
Sounds like you learned some things about your tastes and also learned enough to give some good advice to others who might not like reading!
How I did it: Maybe I should have clicked "given up". I read all the books that are in my bookshelf in my room, but not in the whole house. I was originally planning on that but after reading the stuff in my room, i found it to be a waste of time.
It felt good to finally finish books I would have really liked when I was younger and didn't have the ability to read (I have a reading disability so it was very hard for me to finish books). I don't know what happened to me this summer that I have been reading so many books.
I found it to be a waste of time, but not entirely. Firstly, it always feels good to finally accomplish a childhood dream, even if it is not as wonderfully sweet and savory as it would have been if you accomplished it as a child. Secondly, I learned that I just am not a fiction reader. I love non-fiction or stories with accurate, useful information. When I read fiction, it needs to be an interesting and compelling story. Harry Potter was not interesting to me... sorry... wizards going to school and a big bad villain... *yawn* But stories by Jodi Picoult are much more interesting to me!
It took me that long just because up until now, i was still forcing myself to read and not finishing and losing interest.
Lessons & tips: Don't force yourself. Reading needs to be natural and something you want to do. I thought I would NEVER want to read anything, but here I am reading one or two books a week. And I have ADD and a reading disability (not severe like dyslexia though). So... it can happen.
