How to improve my singing technique
How I did it: I rejoined the chorus at my school, and our director was amazing - he really pushed us to improve our technique, and to push ourselves to do the best we could. I also auditioned for and got into my school's show choir; because it was a smaller group we had to sing all the louder WHILE dancing! It was loads of fun, and of course I'm continuing it in my senior year. I also tried out for Districts (a regional singing competition kind of thing) and didn't make it (froze up a little at the audition), but still had more time working with our chorus director. Finally this summer I took a musical theatre class at Harvard and it was my first time really performing a belter song in front of other people - and I didn't do badly at all!
Lessons & tips: Even if you can't afford private lessons, find ways to have contact with good instructors. Join groups at your school or church, or in your community, take group classes that include singing, and just KEEP PRACTICING!
