How I did it: I randomly applied online through Monster.  The funny thing is I barely remember actually applying for the job- I just applied for a bunch of jobs that I thought I might qualify for.  Everyone tells you not to apply for jobs that way.  I think this might be the only job I ever found through an online site.   

Lessons & tips: I think one of the biggest reasons why I got this job is because I was absolutely desperate for work by the time I had my interview.  I channeled my desperation in a positive way.  I was very assertive but open when I spoke with my manager and I really talked up my selling points. 

I read somewhere that you should be the best version of yourself when you're in an interview.  I really took that advice to heart.  I was friendly, funny, honest and sincere.

It also helped that a former co-worker had been working at the job for a month and I asked him to put in a good word for me.
