How to go to the Turkish baths by Absnasm

"A hot, steamy, sweaty afternoon surrounded by fat old women. Which is not how it sounds."

How I did it: Um, I got on a bus and went to the Turkish baths?

Oh FFS, there's nothing more to it, why do I have to write more?

OK, I put a bottle of water, a towel and my swimming costume in a bag, got dressed and went to the Turkish baths. Is that enough?

Lessons & tips:

  • Take more than one towel with you, as big as you can. The chairs and benches get so hot that you might need them to protect your skin when you touch them.
  • If you take a book, make sure you don't mind the glue melting.
  • Take a bottle of water.
  • Make sure you eat something before you go. I wound up having to leave because I was so starving I thought I might faint in the heat.
  • It's like a girls' club in there - be prepared that people might want to chat to you. They'll leave you alone if you want them to. 
  • Do get a massage - it's a really good value way to get a professional massage at a great price.

To be honest...

..there are hardly any of them left in the UK, and the one I went to is under thread of closure. It’s such a shame, it’s a lovely way to spend an afternoon.
