How to be a groupie
How I did it: When I was younger I'd follow the Manics with no second thoughts and suprisingly little money. I must say I have gotten into my fair share for scrapes too... from sleeping in ditches, train/ bus stations and random peoples hotel rooms, to almost being done for credit card fraud (innocent!), interviews for documentaries and many more escapades.
Sadly being a real life adult (shudder) means that a lot more planning (and money) has to go into it all now. Organisation is the key... tho it rarely goes completely to plan...adventures! Been touring since I was old enough (14) and had 16 yrs of fun!
Lessons & tips: You don't have to have sexual encounters with a band/ famous person to be a groupie. The term has become derogatory by it's association with a particular sexually-predatory type of groupie. Have some self esteem, have fun, have adventures and create great memories to treasure.
Resources: Teen rebellion/angst, the fearlessness of youth.
When I started following the Manics, the internet was not widely in use. Now you can plan travel, routes etc, get the latest news, meet other fans and a whole host of other things with greater ease.
