How I did it: I picked a weekend I had free and went for it! Drove out Cascade Lakes Hwy, parked by Devil's Lake and hit the trail. With site seeing along the way and at least an hour spent at the top, the round trip time hit right around 8 hours.

Lessons & tips: Be sure to wear good, supportive shoes that fit well. I have a pair of Merrell low top hikers, but decided to go with my cheapo hikers I bought strictly to wear in a shoot because they were more of a boot. I did so with the hopes of keeping more scree out of my shoes. The broken blisters on the backs of my heels scream to me that I should have gone with the Merrells. Don't make my mistake. ;)

Start out early, bring snacks and plenty of water, and take as much time as you need. The view at the top is spectacular.
