How to go zip-lining
How I did it: I went camping with friends this weekend and we went ziplining at Anchors Above in Pictou County. They strap you into all the necessary gear and give you a helmet. Then you hike uphill for about 10 to 15 mins. That's the hardest part of the whole thing.
Once you reach the platform, someone will attach your harness to the zipline, and you just walk off the plank. The first line is longer at 1100 feet long and is about 240 ft off the ground. You drop about 6 stories down to the 2nd platform. It's fairly fast, but the pace is such that I was able to take video during.
Someone is there to "catch" you at the second platform, and then you detach and reattach to the second line. This one is a bit shorter and not quite as high, but it's a steep incline so you fly. You drop 10 stories on this line. There's a large net set up to catch you at the end of the line, and someone will detach you and take your harness/equipment etc.
It doesn't take long especially if there's no one ahead of you in line. We were in and out in less than an hour I'd say. But a lot of fun was had by all!
Lessons & tips: There is no skill or physical fitness level needed. Just let yourself go! Try not to hold the strap too close to your face. And if you can fly into the net backwards, it's probably more pleasant than face first.
