How to get a CDL
How I did it: Instead of selling my soul to a company by learning in their school and committing to 1 - 2 yrs with them, I used the HOPE Scholarship in GA to attend a driving school at Dekalb Tech, which has an evening program from 5:30 to 10 PM M-Th and 7:30 am - 7:30 pm on Sat. I earled my permit before starting school, and I worked hard to master maneuvers. The best part was the Saturday road trips that started in week 3.
Lessons & tips: The key is mastering your mirrors. The mirrors were not easy, but I was told it would "click" in due time, and my instructors were right. It's second nature to me now.
Also, don't be scared of double-clutching, even if you've only driven automatics. The shifting will come naturally with practice, and that's what school is for: practice!
Resources: The instructors will help you, and hopefully, you'll be in a good class with people who don't mind assisting where they can.
