How to run a 5k
How I did it: I followed the Couch to 5k program, which I was pleased and amazed to discover took me from struggling to keep up a slow jog for 60 second increments to being able to jog a solid 45 minutes. Every week when the plan added time to the running, I worried that I wouldn't be able to do it, but I just tried my best. And each time I was astonished to find the I actually could do it. As I went, I blogged about the experience at Sparkpeople.
Lessons & tips: Try it. Even if you don't think you can do something, build up to it slowly, and you can amaze yourself.
Keep a record of your progress. It helps to look back and see how far you've come. Record your feelings--through struggles and accomplishments.
Find someone who will support you through the hard times. Mine were online friends, but real life buddies might be better.
Stay safe. Choose a safe place to run, and switch up the route sometimes. Watch out for unrestrained dogs.
Keep it up after you've completed the goal.
