How to open a savings account
How I did it: I was at the bank depositing a check anyway and just asked. It was quick and painless. I had to have at least $50 to start it with and I was even able to set up a recurring transfer from my checking account into the savings account. So I'll be making an automatic deposit into the savings from checking each month.
I chose one with a lower interest rate because I was able to make as many withdrawals a month as I wanted whereas I had limited to no withdrawals a month on some with higher interest rates. I can even access the account with the same debit/check/credit card I have for my normal checking account.
Lessons & tips: Look for an account that suits your needs. Some have minimum balances and limits on how often you can take money out of the saving account if at all. If you have a larger amount you would like to put into savings at once and don't plan on needing access to it often, I would go with one of those accounts because interest rate is higher and there are other perks.
Resources: I like Chase banks...haha
