How to milk a cow

How I did it: I had wanted to this for years and years and years. I was down at my parents' cottage this July and went to the local farmers' market. There was a farmer selling milk, butter, cheese, and beef (they have some beef cattle in addition to their dairy herd). I asked if I could come and learn how to milk and he said yes.
He does machine milk, but because you have to test each teat first to make sure that there is milk and no infection or problem, I did learn the basics of hand-milking in addition to putting the vacuum hoses on the cows. It was an incredible experience and I'm so glad that I got to do this!
