"Better than I ever expected."

How I did it: I found a wonderful doctor who I trusted completely and took the necessary steps to be under his care, even though I risked, and did, offend my former doctor. I made my pregnancy my first priority. I religiously took my prenatal vitamins even though I hate taking pills and monitored myself very closely and spoke up when I had questions. The most important thing in achieving this goal was my attitude: I refused to settle for mediocre care and I didn't care whose feelings I hurt.

Lessons & tips: If you don't like your doctor, find another one. You need to trust him completely and not just have a love hate relationship with him. Because, heaven forbid, should you or your baby be on the line, you're going to have to rely on him to save you.

Changing doctors

I completely understand and support what you did. I did the same thing! My former ob/gyn reacted offended and even got kind of nasty when I started asking questions about “routine” procedures. I decided then to change doctors.

I wasn’t very sure if I was doing the right thing, since I was already 24 weeks pregnant when I went to my first visit with the new doctor, but oh my Lord! What a difference! It was worth it.
