How I did it: I talked to him the previous night before saying that I wanted to talk to him tomorrow morning. I packed all of his things in the back of my trunk and drove over to his house. I told him that I wanted to discuss something important. He put on a pot of tea and we sat in his kitchen and had a nice and easy discussion
I told him that I was too busy to put up with this relationship any more. I told him that the relationship was more of a pain than pleasure at this point of time. He understood and cried a little bit but like no sobbing. Just slow teardrops down his cheek pointed towards his chin. I felt really bad.
He said that he didn't understand and I told him that
"You do not understand because you do not want to understand. You saw this coming for a long time and now it is time for us to grow up and separate like adults."
It is powerful to see someone who loves you so much that they are strong enough to let you go knowing that it is best for both parties.
It is not like yay!! I am single fancy free can do whatever I want sort of feeling. I feel at ease and content with my decision and I hope I continue to feel this way in the future.
Lessons & tips: Be direct, but gentle. Let them know that you are in a clear and focused state of mind and that you absolutely mean everything you say to them. Speak easy and be honest!
