How to save a life
How I did it: When your boyfriend decides his life isn’t really worth living anymore and takes a fatal amount of pills, it’s
kind of tough making the decision to call for help. I can’t say it’s
the easiest thing I’ve done, seeing as I’ve feelings of guilt for
interference, and taking on his life after he was no longer able to do
so was rather stressful but compared to the alternative I’d say it was
pretty well worth it. Still, it's hard to feel like you've done right when there's the possibility that it can all happen again, and no matter what you do it's all in vain. It gives the feeling of running against the wind, amongst others. The mind fluctuates between the short-term satisfaction of the individual to the long-term effects of the individuals actions, leaving in between a chasm separating the polarized views. The experience as a whole may be a test of self-control, but with the extraordinary result of knowing that you've helped someone (dear, stranger, or otherwise) to another chance to make use of life.
Lessons & tips: If you’re the type to worry about
worst-case scenarios, that deadly “what-if”, I would make sure to have
a mental crutch nearby. Someone for support, because it gets pretty
rough once it’s all said and done.
