How I did it: On the way to my brother-in-law's wedding at Lake Tahoe, there was a freak snowstorm in September. They closed the pass so we had to stay in one of the towns below Colfax for the night. The next morning, we got in the car and drove to the Donner monument, where we got out and played in the snow! My daughter was wearing sandals because it was hot in the Central Valley, and I have a picture of her toes covered in snow. She and daddy got into a snowball fight. What a great time!
