How to grow tomatoes
How I did it: the first year, I bought a tomato plant. It died. The second year, a tomato plant sprouted in the dirt from my compost bin. It grew nice and tall, but wilted at the slightest heat. I keep a container garden on my covered balcony, so it never got water unless I watered it myself. Finally, I went on vacation and the tomato plant fell down . . . but not before one tiny tomato formed on the top branch. Even though the plant died, the tomato got ripe. I'm counting that as my one tomato.
Lessons & tips: water, water, water! a tomato cage would be really helpful too.
Resources: home depot for the original plant and my rubbermaid composting bins.
