"Becoming a vegan means I'm more energetic, healthy & can feel good about my impact on the planet and it's creatures"
How I did it: Well.. I was a vegetarian initially before becoming a Vegan.
Just like when I became a vegetarian I made the transition slowly. I think it's easier to crash and burn if you just jump over quickly.
I made sure that I was getting all the good stuff.
-- Spinach for Iron, but most green vegetables are great.
--- Lentils, tofu and beans for protein.
--- Soy Milk for calcium.
--- B12 Tablet once a day.
--- Some natural good fats such as Avacardo
-- Fruits
Also, I think it's a good idea to mix it up as much as possible. It's easy to fall into the trap of cooking the same thing over and over.
I also would suggest you freeze some meals for lazy nights. :)
Lessons & tips: Typically the people who last the longest are the ones who do their research before hand.
Make sure you understand some basic nutrition, have collected some great recipes and have planned how your new diet will affect you and your family.
Don't get angry at people who are aggressive when they discover you're a Vegan.
I found this to be very common, the best way to deal with it is to answer any questions they have logically and calmly and just smile at the people who critizize you. They're not at the same level as you.
