How I did it: I've always wanted to paint a mural, although in all honesty I am not that artistic.  I was finally inspired to do it by some stencils I found at a thrift shop.   I bought them and just jumped in and started working on it.  I had just painted my basement so I had a fresh surface to work on, and I worked on it on weekends.  It came together pretty quickly, and would have been quicker if I had been happier with the stencils and followed their design instead of making some alterations of my own. 

Lessons & tips: I wish now I would have done more planning.  I didn't realize until I started how staid and static the stencil design was.  If I had thought it out first, there were things I would have done differently that I couldn't change too easily once I got started.

Resources: I have watched Donna Dewberry and the late Bob Ross for years, and incorporated things I learned from them into the design.  BTW, the picture I have does not show the whole mural but does show about 80% of it.
