How to move out of my parents house into a place of my own
How I did it: I recently drove across the country from NJ to San Francisco, CA where I've moved into my first apartment on my own! I decided it would be cheaper to load as much as I could into my car, and buy new furniture in California instead of renting a U-Haul. It took us a week to drive across the country, stopping to see sights and staying in hotels every night.
Lessons & tips: Furnishing an apartment from scratch is expensive! Make sure you've got a lot of money saved up, and be on the lookout for used furniture. Moving near the end of a college semester is great, as lots of college kids will be moving out of the dorms and giving away their furniture for free or cheap.
Resources: I used Microsoft Streets and Trips to plan my cross-country drive, and yelp.com for hotel and apartment reviews.
