How to actually hold the art sale & trafficking awareness evening that I'm planning
How I did it: It took many months of planning - especially since over the summer most of our group was away here, there and everywhere.
We spent a lot of time in prayer, did a lot of research, booked a location, searched out silent auction items, made up order sheets for the photography we were planning to sell, sent about a million emails back and forth and a ton of other things.
The night of, we set up the room with tons of little white lights and table lamps. We had a corner for photography, a table about International Justice Mission - the organization we were supporting. We also had newspaper articles, a banner people could sign, refreshments and a silent auction. It was a ton of work but totally worth it!
UPDATE:::
We counted up the money that we raised and it came to more than $1400!!!!!!!
Praise God!
Lessons & tips: Make sure you have a lot of time to prepare ahead of time. Hold regular meetings to be sure that everybody is on track. Do your advertising early enough.
Resources: We had a lot of donations from several generous companies in our city, including (but not limited to!):
- 10,000 Villages (fair trade goods!)
- Red Hill Fair Trade Coffee
- Subway
- Fabutan
- Voortman's Cookies
- Dimplemeir baked goods (spelling??)
- Tigchelaar Berry Farms, Inc.
- Salvatore's Gifts
- Group 8 Engineering
- . . . . . . .
Websites that are good :
International Justice Mission Canada
Stop the Traffik
the Not for Sale campaign
many others....too tired to post more at the moment...
