How to quit my job
How I did it: I came up with a game plan. I didn't just want to quit my job - I wanted a new career. I applied took the GRE and applied to graduate programs for Graphic Design. Once I got into a school, I notified my employers and gave them 8 months notice. This allowed me time to hire and train a replacement for the company. Though I hated my job and was frustrated with the company, I wanted to do right by them. I wanted future employers to be able to call them for references. They definitely appreciated the heads up and it kept me in good standing with my former employers.
Lessons & tips: Don't burn bridges. This is the last reference on your resume. If you walk out giving them little to no notice, then all the time you spent working there was a total waste. A professional attitude goes a long way. Definitely a lesson in patience - good things come to those who wait!
