How to homeschool my children
How I did it: I went down to the school board and signed a waver stating I was going to homeschool my son. For our family this wasn't something that I could just do and we all had to be on the same page. The first year we worked with a curriculum and allowed our son to pick the direction of his learning. The second year we did more of an unschooling approach. This year our son turned 9 and is in his 4th year of homeschooling and I have returned to work full time and my husband does the main academics.
It's been a heck of an experience and a lot of trial and error, but once you find your groove, it's a rewarding experience!
Lessons & tips: Don't push too hard: This is a big one. Homeschooling can be catered to what you want and what your children needs. It took us a long time to realize that we didn't have to teach the same way that the public schools were doing it.
Stay on top of yearly lessons: In case your child needs to go back to public school at some point, keep in mind what they would be learning in the public school setting and keep them on par.
Know the rule in your state: Keep a journal or log of what you do and make sure what you are doing is considered legal in your state so you don't run into problems later.
