How to run a marathon
How I did it: Personally, I had been running fairly consistently for about 2 years before I tackled my first full marathon. Prior to that, I had run a good handful of 5k's and 10k's, mixed in there with 3 half-marathons. I trained really hard for at least 3 months.
Once I finished, it was most exhilirating feeling that I ever had. This was even more true after I finished my second marathon, just 3 weeks later.
Lessons & tips: Start training as early as possible. I cannot stress this enough. You shouldn't try to cram 3 weeks of long runs into 2 days. It's bad on your body and it won't help you get across the finish line any faster.
I would also recommend having a very good fitness base before attempting such a feat, at least a year of running regularly.
