How I did it: I just kept on applying, and to be honest enrolled in even further education -but I still got a part-time job and even that was hard earned!  A lot of people told me to lie about having a degree whilst looking for retail work but I don't see why I should lie about achieving something which nearly killed me (!) and eventually someone noticed my experience and hired me!

I know it's hard but try to remember those of your friends with jobs aren't delightfully happy either, you have to make peace with your current circumstances and try not to loose heart. :)
