How to pay off my credit card
How I did it: I mainly accomplished this by making distinct and tough decisions.
I started by using Quicken to understand my spending- however understanding and doing something about spending are two different things.
Due to only one primary income and high credit use, I restricted my spending to primarily bills and rare splurges but unfortunately this was limited by my partner's habits. I realized without the support of my partner this goal was going to go nowhere and was of the upmost importance to me. I had to make a very tough decision to let go of this person who was keeping me from this goal (and other things). I know it sounds crazy and wrong (without knowing the whole story) but it did work. Within 2 months I had paid a few thousand off since I no longer had to pay for his bills - for his allowance and wants of which he paid minimal to none. I'm not saying this is the way to go but it is much more difficult if both people are not actively working towards the same goal.
Lessons & tips: Read PF blogs - learn from them. Especially people still in the "trenches".
Use a program to track your accounts, spending,. etc. it's not painful to use once setup and if yoiu commit to looking at it weekly. This will keep you on track for paying off debts and paying them on time.
Have a budget- know you're going to bust it at times but know you're trying and it will start working.
