How to weekly: exercise in my target heart rate zone (HRtarget) 4x (Happiness Manifesto Declaration #1)
How I did it: I work out a minimum of 4 days a week, for at least 30 minutes to an hour (depending on how much time I have). If it's just 30 minutes, I spend that time focusing on cardio and getting my heart rate in a fat burning range. I walk/jog, swim laps, aquajog, bike (stationary). Sometimes I use the elliptical machines, stairclimbers. Sometimes I throw on a boot camp workout DVD, dance, or cardiobox.
I weight train at least 2 days a week. I walk alot during my "rest" days. I intentionally pick distant restaurants, theaters or supermarkets so that I'll have to walk to them. I'll take the stairs as often as I can (provided the area is safe). I joined Weight Watchers and watch what I eat. All this work is really paying off for me. I've lost 61 pounds in less than 6 months. I've lost three dress sizes.
Lessons & tips: Be willing to get uncomfortable, and don't give up. Real fitness is about pushing beyond your comfort zones so that you not only make your body stronger, but more resilient as well. It's really mind over matter. Make sure you're working out in your target heart rate, but don't push until your lungs burn. You want to burn fat, not muscle.
