How to walk a 10 K
How I did it: I trained a little for this one with a few distance walks before hand, but essentially I did the same thing that I had for the 5k I'd participated in the year before. I wore comfortable clothing, made sure I was fueled up, and properly hydrated. I did buy myself a new pair of sneakers, and wore a fanny pack (so I'd have something to carry my belongings in). I brought along my iPod, so I'd have some motivating tunes to listen to. I also did it with a friend this time (so we were able to inspire each other).
Lessons & tips: Be patient. Not everyone is going to move at your pace. If you've a quick mover, be sure to take advantage of as many openings in the crowd you can find to get closer to the finish line.
Resources: Get some comfortable sneakers!
