firefly1818 Just needs to keep going.
You got absolutely outstanding results! Congratulations!
How I did it: I took the Becker online course and followed their 6 month timeline and did it! It took a lot of studying, a lot of sacrifice but definitely worth it to get it done in a relatively short period of time.
Lessons & tips: Don't get behind, don't slack off. Just keep your eye on the prize and you'll get there. I would definitely suggest getting the hard one(s) done first. I took FAR first and was glad to get it out of the way. Also, with the 18 month window, it's always better to start the clock on your hardest exam.
Resources: Becker Review. Passed on my first try with FAR (88), AUD (92), REG (85), BEC (91) and
that is the order that I took it in which worked out perfect for me.
Thank you Tim and Peter! :)
Congratulations! absolutely a good example to follow.. In just 6 months and with great scores! enjoy your baby and life. Can’t wait to be finished!
Yes, I work full time in a pretty demanding job/lots of overtime, so it was quite difficult but it can be done. I’m also a single mom, so the only time I really had to study was at night after my daughter was in bed. So I would say that I studied about 2-3 hours every night of the week and more on the week leading up to the exam. I would study the whole weekend before the exam, and I’d even take a day off if I could to cram. My memory sucks so I needed to get in as much as I could at the last minute :)
Do you have just the books or also the lecture and homework MC questions? I think the multiple choice are a pretty important part of studying for the CPA. The formulas are hard, but you need to memorize them. I just wrote them out by hand, over and over again until I memorized them. I reviewed them right before going into the exam and then wrote down as much as I could remember on my scratch paper. Good Luck!
I’m glad I could be a motivator for you. I know all too well those days that you just want to veg out or sleep instead of studying. And I did that here and there too to keep me from going absolutely crazy, but just stay focused and don’t let yourself get behind. The practice tests were key for me because it gave me a chance to test how well I might do on the exam and to also pinpoint the areas that I still needed more work on. For all the problems I got wrong, I went back to the book/lectures and went over it all again until I really understood the concepts. I think that helped. But something to note, don’t feel bad if your practice tests are leaving you with lower than desirable scores. The Becker practice tests are much harder than the actual CPA exam.
