How I did it: I'd been searching, on-and-off for the past 18 months or so for a job in Yorkshire. Work suddenly gave me a reason to pick up the pace of my search as they threatened to make me redundant. I just got lucky with my next application, and had an interview and got the job within two weeks. In the following three weeks I had a (slightly panicky) hunt for somewhere to live, and found a nice cottage in the country. This probably isn't a recommended way of doing things, but it worked for me. In my case, I had the advantage of being single and a tenant, so moving was relatively quick (even if I am still sorting out the aftermath) but still stressful.
