"fantastic"
How I did it: My mom wanted the whole family - siblings, spouses, children - to take a trip to Disney World this year. We just got back yesterday and it was a total blast.
We stayed in the cabins at Fort Wilderness which have their own charm and convenience (and some causes for complaint). There were 11 of us. We went to the Magic Kingdom, Typhoon Lagoon, EPCOT, Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom (in that order). We had dinner in 2 signature restaurants - California Grill at the Comtemporary and Jiko at Animal Kingdom Lodge as well as lunch at the Brown Derby in Hollywood Studios. We took a Segway tour of Fort Wilderness (excellent).
It was fun to be together and explore the parks then have some time together at the pool or hanging out at the hotel. I loved re-discovering old favorites and finding new ones (Expedition Everest is awesome). It was definitely magical to see Disney through the kids eyes.
Lessons & tips: The Magical Express is neither magical nor express. The airport is probably a 30 minute drive but it can take HOURS if you use this service because they pick up and drop off others along the way. Luggage is delivered to your room several hours after you arrive.
Go to each park early and take advantage of the Fastpass option for rides with lines longer than 20 minutes.
Check out which parks are open early or late every day.
Bring water and sunscreen!
