How to be published
"wrote an article based on a previous experience - figured the knowledge would be useful to others attempting the same"
How I did it: created and organized an art festival in 2002-2003. drafted documents like budgets, mission statement, press kits, a list of artist/authors/musicians/workshop leaders/and other dope people to come, a p.o. box to accept donations and submissions, bi-weekly volunteer meetings, fliers, benefit shows to raise money, and then started looking for sponsors.
if it sounds daunting, its because it was. lol
after this, the experience was so beyond anything i'd ever done so i wrote an article because during the organizing, i thought about how neat it would have been to have had a guide.
Lessons & tips: people have to believe these things can happen, even when it doesn't seem like it will. you won't sleep. period. but on a positive note, you'll sleep A LOT after its over :o)
as far as publishing the article, i looked around for magazines that it would be appropriate in, sent a draft of it to the editor, and had a response from her in less than a week.
