How to overcome ADD
"I didnt even know i was doing the right things!"
How I did it: Last year a friend of mine suggested that I should go get myslef check, becaue i act like i have add. It turned out that I had it for my whole life. I was always hyper but i knew how to calm down so i figured that i naturaly had lots of energy.
My mothers comment was the funniest :
- " Mom, Ive been diagnosed with ADD"
- " Where did it come from??"
- " Mom! I was born with it! "
- " o, well, that explains a lot .... :) "
I was given Ritalin and it made me feel empty inside. I hated it. I was calmer, thats for sure , but I wasnt myslef.
Than (after reading few help tips ) i realized, that i have been dealing with this on my own without even realizing.
Lessons & tips:
- have a designated space for work and for relax. do not do it at the same space. going to a space that you call your "office" will put you in a working mood. The same with relaxing - if you are going to sit on the most comfortable couch - your body will automatically know that its supposed to relax
- get a planner. day or week planner. I have an hourly one where i mark everything! I have it color coded for work and school with different colors and for fun different colors. I have a little space where i put my TO DO LIST and I try sticking to it. sometimes it doesnt work but thats ok.
- set realistic goals - dont make a list of 20 errands when you know you have only two hours.
- sit in the front of the class ( if you are a student ) or in general in the first row of any presentations, meetings, etc that you know will take time. It will help you be less distracted by all the movement that you would otherwise concentrate on if you would be sitting in the back. Also, its gonna be kinda embarrasing to zoom out while you are sitting directly across from the proffesor .
