How to become a mascot
How I did it: I heard about mascot tryouts for our local minor league team during morning announcements at school. I applied, interviewed, and was granted an audition. I choreographed a few songs, cut a rug, put out the best effort possible and was given the job of Chief Krazy Horse (Chillicothe Paints).
Lessons & tips: (When Auditioning)
1- Keep Moving! Exaggerate your movements. Remember, you're in a 10+ pound costume of some kind, you have to put in a little more effort to make your movements seen.
2- Variety. We've seen all the mascots clap, wave, bow, whatever. Throw in something new, different, or unique. For my routines I did everything from miming to air-guitar to "voodoo" to every dance I could think of... and it worked!
3- Have fun! Mascots are created to bring fun to the fans, and if you can't have fun yourself, how can you make it??
