How I did it: Usually I saved up half the amount and then go on a splurging frenzy. I got a lot of gift cash on my birthday and it helped towards my goal. Next goal.. "save $2000".

Lessons & tips: Avoid unplanned expenses. Leave the wallet at home when you know you wont be needing it and carry some spare cash just in case of emergencies.
