How to get a masters degree
How I did it: I found a program in which an American university sends its professors to other countries to allow people living abroad to pursue higher education. The degree was in Education - I would have preferred another area, but this was what was available, and the price was right. The cost was closer to 6,000 than the 10-20 thousand that many other programs cost. So I decided to go for it, and use this as a stepping stone to get yet another degree in an area closer to my heart. After I joined the program my wife and I were able to get jobs working for the program, and so were able to get our tuition further reduced. Thanks to this degree I now have a job teaching in a university.
Lessons & tips: It may seem big, but all you have to do is day by day, do the next thing on the list.
Talk with your profs. Don't be anonymous. Go out with them, find out about them, let them know about you.
Enquire about positions helping out. It makes you look interested, raises the profs opinion of you, and could lower your tuition.
