I do that too.. look up everything on Amazon and then hope, hope, hope that the library buys a copy. ;-) Good for us, eh?
How to go to the library more
How I did it: I fell out of the habit of going to the library last spring. I had money to burn, so I started going to the bookstore instead. It started innocently enough with a trip to the used book store to trade in stuff that was clogging up my shelves. And then I found myself back at the Borders.
I'm a really bad book hoarder. I'm trying to get out of the habit of it. I'm trying to change my qualifications for which books are worth owning.
This sounds silly, but Amazon rebuilt my library habit.
I use Amazon to search for books I am interested in, then I search the local library system for it and reserve a copy. It gets shipped to my branch and I pick it up. I usually have the book I reserved within a few days, sometimes very popular books take a few weeks. Still I am saving money, and space, and resources by not buying the books.
I get to examine the books at leisure and if I still feel compelled to buy it and add it to my collection, at least I am not doing it on a whim, sight unseen.
Resources: amazon!
