How I did it: I'd been working as a waitress for 2 years at the same place for really little money for really short shifts, so after months of ooing & ahhing I started looking for work in shops, other restaurants etc (I was studying as well so I wasn't looking for a full on job); I applied for heaps of jobs always hoping to hear back. After about 3 months I got a call from a popular seafood restaurant in my area...I was so surprised, that was one of the first jobs I'd applied for when I started.  Needless to say I worked there for about 15 months, worked heaps of hours, was able to buy a new car and I also met my boyfriend there & now we have a baby LOL.

Lessons & tips: Apply for anything that suit you, even if some things seem like you don't have a chance, apply anyway - you have nothing to lose (my boyfriend did this, he didn't get the job he applied for but the company offered him a different role after seeing his resume).
Also, some places keep applications for a certain period, so maybe they won't call you back now, but they might in the future :)
