How to go to the Balloon Fiesta
How I did it: I flew into ABQ airport which is about 13 miles from balloon fiesta. Paid 10 dollars for parking on the day of and 6 at the gate for entry. This event requires minimum to no planning ahead at all. It was so simple. Book my flight and hotel and taxi it around town. Everything can be done at the gate and directions are all over town.
Lessons & tips: Get there early for dawn patrol. Traffic can be bad but it moves quickly. Weather is also tricky. If winds are more than 7mph it's unlikely balloons will fly but they do give a refund believe it or not so still attempt going onto the field. You can actually walk between and next to the balloons. That could have been my favorite part. Bring more film than you need and a big enough memory card for the digital because I had 800 photos after two days. Ammaaazing time! Make sure to visit the history tent. They provide free digital images of you in a gondola, the opp. to fly a simulated balloon, tons of free gifts, history and free interactive events for young and old.
