Your lucky
Im 11 and love writing but nobody will every want to publish something by me in my life I have written about 38 poems I happy that you lived your dream
How I did it: The hardest part of publishing a poetry book, assuming you already write poetry regularly, is meandering through the publishing industry's mine fields. Generally, poetry books don't sell well -- even for established poets -- so getting a major publishing house to agree to a deal is near impossible.
If you don't mind going the self-publishing route, there are a number of avenues available. I've tried two of them so far. The first I tried was lulu. I liked their interface and ease of access, but they have one major drawback. They accept Microsoft Word documents and that has lead to anumber of headaches where my proof did not even begin to resemble my actual document. If you do choose to go with lulu, make sure you upload your files as PDF files instead.
The second publishing house I've worked with is createspace. They are a subsidiary of amazon and have a number of benefits that to me, make them more attractive than lulu. The biggest being that they offer a free ISBN number and barcode for your book. The caveat being that they own the publishing writes to the piece. If you write a best-seller and want to shop it around to a regular publisher, it would be harder to do.
Another reason I prefer createspace to lulu is the cost per book is cheaper. At lulu, the price per book goes down depending on how many you buy. If you only want fifty or a hundred, you're going to pay a significantly higher price per unit. On the other hand, if you're buying a thousand or more, lulu may be your better bet.
The final reason that I prefer createspace to lulu is that I like createspace's cover creation utilities better. Once you've set page count and book size, they make available a one piece cover template that makes it very easy to ensure that your cover will look professional and line up correctly. You can do one-piece covers with lulu too, but you have to do all of the measuring yourself and it's a lot easier to mess up when you don't have a template.
Overall, publishing a book of poetry has been a very positive experience for me. I'm thrilled everytime I hold the finished product in my hands, knowing that I did the work to create not only the poetry, but the book too. :-)
