How I did it: The locality I live in has an online community forum where a request for my blood group was put up. I replied and did not hear back from them for three days. Then earlier this morning, I received a message thanking me and saying that the operation was successful and hence there was no need for backup blood. A half hour following the email, I got a call asking if I could donate later in the day. I agreed. Half hour later they called back saying they would prefer that I come over immediately. They sent a vehicle and picked me up and it was allover in a few minutes. Got a fruit juice, lay in bed for 5 minutes and walked out to what turned out to be a hectic day.

Strangely I was not affected at all by losing the liter of blood.
