How to donate blood
How I did it: Saw I sign for an upcoming blood drive and decided to go. It wasn't very busy so I got right in. Answered some crazy questions (no, I have not had any perverted sex!) and gave some information about myself to make a profile for the Red Cross. When it was time to draw blood, the nurses had a hard time finding my vein. After difficulty feeling it in my right arm, they tried the left and got it. They gave me something to drink and I just laid there. About half way through a got dizzy and they had me lift my arm and they turned a fan on which helped. Afterward I got some free pizza, snacks, and prizes (a seat cushion, bag, coupons, bag of peanuts, etc.). I got lightheaded again so laid down with the fan and then felt better. Thankfully, I didn't faint. :-) Had to take it easy the rest of the day and not exert myself too much.
Lessons & tips: Make sure you aren't sick before giving blood and have time to relax afterward so you don't over do it. If you can, schedule an appointment.
Resources: Advice from people who had given blood before.
