How to do something nice for myself
"It's a matter of focus and an overall approach, based on a core principle: My Happiness Matters."
How I did it: Doing something nice for myself is a bit counter-intuitive, in that while I think I deserve it, I also tend to put it last on the priority list.
Changing that is a matter of focus and approach. First, I thought about all the large and small things that I like; then, I thought about ways to work them into my day to day life. For example, I like to read - so I put a good lamp next to a comfortable chair, and made a point of granting myself at least two hours a week to simply sit and enjoy a book.
I've been fairly consistent for the past 3 months, so I am marking this "done".
Lessons & tips:
- Make a list of things you like, and see how you can work them into your life more often.
- Be worthy of the goal - if you've accomplished much; remember you deserve a reward - and no one is better suited to give it to you than yourself.
- It doesn't have to cost money, and it doesn't have to take a lot of time - use your list of things you like to help identify small stuff that matters to you.
