How I did it: I had my mother help me sew a kilt-like skirt from a pattern I liked and just started wearing it.  I actually went into some high-end stores soon after making it and had some sales clerks compliment me on my outfit. ^-^ I've noticed that alot more men will hold doors open for me. Not necessary, but its kind of nice to feel noticed.
