"Healthiest I've ever been in my life!"
How I did it: What I did:
- Quit Smoking
- Gave up soda
- Stopped adding salt to food
- Became a vegetarian
- Exercise everyday
- Quit coffee
- Brush teeth for at least two minutes at a time and floss
- Eat a well-balanced diet. I log what I eat in SparkPeople’s nutrition tracker to make sure I’m eating properly
- Drink a minimum of 8 cups of water a day
- Daily meditation – 2 weeks
How I did it:- I was motivated to do it for no one but ME.
- I focused on one goal at a time.
- I blogged about it!
- I read a lot about health, nutrition and fitness.
- I felt the need to rid of any addiction, even caffeine.
Lessons & tips:
- Go on one goal at a time. If you focus on one goal a month (Month 1: eliminate soda, Month 2: drink water, etc.), in one year you would've changed 12 major things in your life. That's a lot!
- Listen to your "inner voice." As you change one thing a month, you may hear little naggings in your head about other habits. Listen to it! It's how I decided to stop drinking coffee.
- Create a "brag sheet." You should be proud of any accomplishments - big and small - in getting healthier! Write them down (i.e. 43things.com) and look back at them often.
- Read. "Knowledge is power" is more than a cliche - it make this path so much easier for you. Use knowledge bases like SparkPeople for easy how-tos and sites like RealAge for customized recommendations.
