"Everyday, even if it's something little, doodle, sketch, even smudge in something on a piece of paper, and don't be too judgmental."
How I did it: I used to be so critical about my drawings that I found myself stressed in lecture class just making a doodle on my notes. I didn't draw often enough to just let it be a doodle. I wanted it to be a masterpiece immediately, and I would not settle if it were anything but. But once I realized that I was making this a much bigger deal than it was, I just went and got a little sketch book and kept it in my purse at all times. Sometimes I do let people see some of my drawings, but for the most part, it's only for me, and even if I'm not always drawing something in it, knowing that it's mine and it's always nearby, I have already almost filled the whole thing! Good thing I bought a few more at the same time!
Lessons & tips: Experiment with lots of different instruments: pencils, crayons, pens, markers, colored pencils, anything you can get your paws on!
Keep a small sketchbook around all the time, whether it's one in your purse, or your car (just don't draw while driving, it's there for you when you're parked!), or just in your house, just sit and doodle out your ideas when you have a minute.
And don't be too critical about your ideas. Love the eraser when you're using a pencil. if you don't want to change something you drew, redraw it with the changes you want on another page.
Resources: The art store, where I bought the perfect sized books.
My living room desk, where all the writing utensils in the house get redirected when we clean.
And my brain, where I am constantly amazed at the imagination I have to draw my creativity from.
