How to get better at working from home
How I did it: At first I was very strict with myself and actually worked with fewer breaks and comforts than I do in the office, as I almost felt guilty for being in my home environment and I felt that I had to prove myself.
I then became more relaxed and found I was struggling to get motivated, and wasting time.
After moving into my new flat which had decent internet, comfortable and quiet places to work and a pleasant outlook, I settled into a routine of working 2 of every 4 days at home, and dividing up tasks into those suited to home working and those more suited to office time. This way I wasn't meeting with so many frustrations.
I'm now happy with my routine and seen as I've met my first major deadline with a good product I feel it must be working for me and for my employer!
Lessons & tips: Don't be too hard on yourself, but do be disciplined. Start work when you are supposed to, but finish when you are supposed to also. Make sure to take appropriate breaks to refresh yourself and get a change of scene.
Resources: Just time and figuring it out really. My laptop and decent internet made things much easier. I also used Skype for cheap international calls when doing research, my company pays for this happily as it costs very little.
